Council Rules
Many city charters require a city council to establish rules of procedure for how council meetings will be governed, how appointments will be made, and how council members are to interact with city employees. The first step to creating or revising council rules is to review the city charter. However, the charter only serves as a guide. Council rules are meant to facilitate good council practices and relations and help the council discharge their duty in the best way possible. Therefore, a council should work together to develop rules that will help meet that end goal.
