Oregon to Receive $157 Million for Broadband Expansion

On Wednesday, the White House announced that Oregon is set to receive $157 million from the pandemic relief package passed in 2021. While Oregon had hoped to get this funding sooner, the previous limitations on the Oregon Broadband Fund prohibited the state from spending this funding according to federal guidance. Advocacy in the 2023 session by the LOC and its members helped pass HB 3201, which allowed greater flexibility to receive and spend the entirety of this funding.

This funding follows the announcement in June of the final BEAD funding allocation of nearly $700 million and will aim to connect an additional 17,000 homes and businesses in unserved and underserved areas across the state.
