LOC Publishes May 2022 Election Results for Cities

Nearly 70 local government and special district measures were on the ballot during last month’s statewide election.    While results have yet to be certified, the LOC has prepared a preliminary tabulation showing results as of June 1.  Most races will likely not change, but there are some key state legislative races that may trigger an automatic recount, as they are within the standard of two-tenths of 1% between either a yes/no vote or for two candidates. For more information and details on local elections, the best sources are county elections departments or the Secretary of State’s office.  Both can provide specific details on every measure across the state and track the results of state and local elections.

This year’s May ballot included just 18 city-only measures, with 15 passing.  These measures included local option levies, bond measures, changes to charter amendments and increases to transient lodging taxes.

There were 12 county measures on the ballot, and these had a 50% passage rate.  These measures included advisory questions related to sections of the state becoming part of Idaho. While voters in Josephine and Douglas counties rejected the Idaho conversation, Klamath county supported the notion of joining Idaho.

The May ballot was dominated by 25 measures related to special districts, more than one-half of which were related to rural fire protection.  Only four of these rural fire protection measures lost.

The remaining balance of the measures were 13 school district construction bonds or operating levies, and only six of these passed.
