LOC Members to Vote on Constitutional Amendment
During its June 21, 2024 meeting, the LOC Board of Directors adopted a Code of Ethics, which serves as an accountability tool designed to ensure that board members serve with integrity, represent all community members, manage LOC matters with fairness and impartiality, and serve in a manner that respects the public trust they have been provided. For the Code of Ethics to be meaningful, it must also come with a sanction for any violations thereof.
The proposed Constitutional amendment seeks to provide removal from the board as a possible sanction when a member of the board is found to have violated the Code of Ethics. This amendment is necessary because the current Constitution sets forth only four situations in which a board seat becomes vacant – none of which addresses a violation of the Code of Ethics. The proposed amendment will add a fifth situation in which a board seat would become vacant when a violation of the Code of Ethics occurs and a finding that removal from the board is appropriate.
The LOC membership will vote to amend the LOC Constitution during the Annual Business Meeting on October 19 at the Riverhouse in Bend. An FAQ on the Constitutional Amendment can be viewed here.
