Legislature Forms Joint Committee on Addiction and Community Safety
Senate President Rob Wagner (D-Lake Oswego) and Speaker of the House Dan Rayfield (D-Corvallis) recently announced the creation of a bicameral legislative committee to address Oregon’s addiction and community safety challenges. The Joint Interim Committee on Addiction and Community Safety Response is tasked with developing public health and safety solutions for the 2024 legislative session and potentially longer. The committee will be chaired by Senator Kate Lieber (D-Beaverton) and Representative Jason Kropf (D-Bend) and is expected to hold its first regular meeting in the coming weeks.
The formation of the committee comes on the heels of the filing of two ballot measures to adjust Measure 110 and public polling showing public dissatisfaction with Oregon’s approach to substance abuse. Please monitor the weekly LOC Bulletin for further developments.
