Civil Commitment Bill Gets Hearing
Legislation that would make it easier for people who need behavioral healthcare to be vectored toward treatment received a hearing this week. The bill is supported by the LOC, and a work session is expected April 8.
HB 2467 redefines what it means to be a “danger to self or others” in a way that gives courts and clinicians better direction when determining if a person should be civilly committed.
The legislation is the result of a lengthy workgroup process which achieved consensus between local governments, mental health advocates, prosecutors and defense attorneys.
