Abandoned RV Disposal Bill Receives Public Hearing
The LOC participated in a lengthy multi-stakeholder workgroup effort this week to support legislation that would improve the process and provide funding for removal and disposal of abandoned RVs. The product of that effort, HB 3556, received a public hearing in the Joint Transportation Committee this week. Unfortunately, the -2 amendments put forward by the Oregon Tow Truck Association included a number of provisions that would significantly increase costs and liability for local governments, and likely prevent many cities from removing abandoned RVs entirely. The LOC will continue to advocate for the establishment of a funding source and reimbursement program to help clear the state backlog of abandoned RVs and is working with local government partners and the Oregon Department of Transportation on improvements to the bill.
