*Relocation reimbursement for actual costs up to $5,000 may be available if incumbent is relocating greater than 100 miles.

Overview of Position:
The City of Springfield is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative leader with experience leading diverse and multidisciplinary groups and teams. Under the direction of the Community Development Director, the City Engineer oversees Land Development Engineering (encroachment permits, private improvement project review and approvals, systems development charge administration, and inspection) the Capital Improvement Program (project development and construction, procurement and contract administration, and inspection), and survey programs.

As the Engineering Division Leader and member of the Community Development management team, the role additionally develops, refines, and implements complex policy initiatives aligning them with those of the City Council and the community at large; manages the engineering division staff and operating budget and represents the City and Division to advisory groups, boards, committees, agencies, developers, and contractors.

The ideal candidate is customer service focused and have strong communication skills, someone who makes a broad range of audiences feel heard and understood. The ability to work collaboratively with a solutions-oriented mindset with internal and external partners and customers is essential.

Training & Experience:
The City will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. Such a way to meet minimum qualifications could include:
• Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or related field, and;
• 7-10 years of experience in Civil Engineering or closely related field, and;
• 3-5 years of program and/or personnel management experience.

License & Certifications:
• Registration as Professional Civil Engineer in the state of Oregon or the ability to obtain registration within 12 months of appointment
• Oregon Driver’s license by time of appointment
